Rules for Smooth Sailing

I have come up with seven basic classroom rules that are easy for the children to remember. These rules spell out the words "RESPECT!" These rules are designed to encourage students to be courteous and polite with each other as well as help our class function smoothly and effectively. When rules are followed, learning takes place. I am confident that these basic classroom rules will help us to achieve goals and objectives planned for this school year.

Below are the classroom rules we will follow. Parents, please review these rules with your child, as I will do the same with them in the classroom. Thank-you in advance for your support!

R eturn materials on time.

E ngage in learning.

S hare with others.

P ractice self-control.

E arn your own grades.

C ome to school ready to learn.

T ake time to have fun and enjoy school.

If students "choose" not to follow the classroom rules, then they also "choose" to lose certain privileges. We will use a colored tab system. Students will move a tab each time they choose to break a rule.

Consequences

Green = You're doing great

Yellow = Slow down and think = Warning

Orange = You're headed down the wrong wave = 10 min off recess

Brown = The octopus is getting grumpy = No recess.

Red = You're caught in the ocean = Call to parents and or a trip to Mr. Ervin's Office.

Each day students will start with a green card so that they can have a fresh start, and another chance at displaying appropriate behavior. By having the child physically turning his/her own card, we are asking the child to acknowledge inappropriate behavior and to take responsibility for it. If a child consistently gets a Red card, we may ask the principal to become involved in the discipline process.
